How to keep bees and make honey!

This course will give you the knowledge to begin keeping bees. It is designed for anyone who is interested in beekeeping, whether it’s two hives in your own back yard up to a fifty hive semi-commercial beekeeping operation.  The course is made up of four classroom based days which cover the biology and management tasks you can expect to encounter in a basic beekeeping operation.

Price includes the text book “Beekeeping in Western Canada”. Course registration fee is refundable 30 days prior to course.

This course will be made up of four 4-hour week night classes and a 4 hour field day

Graduates of the course can attend our three additional beekeeping workshops free of charge.

Revive the hive: This spring check-up teachers beekeepers about how to assess an overwintered colony.  Students also learn about cleaning, feeding, medicating, swarm prevention, and preparation for the summer honey flow

Bee disease free: Students will learn how to assess their colonies for disease and pests. This summer lesson includes hive maintenance during honey flow, removing honey from the hive, and honey extraction and storage.

No-Freeze bees: This seminar will teach students how to prepare their colonies for winter survival. This includes; what to do after the final honey pull, disease and pest treatments, supplemental feeding, winter wraps, and winter maintenance.
