Apples – from Science to Fairy Tales

Continuing to look at our amazing local apples.

Apples have made significant contributions to science medicine, love, and fairy tales!

• To science: Isaac Newton is said to have discovered the Law of Gravity when an apple fell on his head.
• To medicine: The most famous saying involving apples is, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” The original saying in old English adage was, “To eat an apple before going to bed, will make the doctor beg his bread.”
• To love: The saying, “You are the apple of my eye,” is a romantic phrase often used to express great love.
• To fairy tales: Apples got a bad rap in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, where the Evil Step-mother tries to kill Snow White using a poisoned apple.
